Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
25+ years in business and HR with more than 6 years as a consultant.
What is your primary product or service?
Business, Leadership and HR Consulting and Executive Coaching
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I always wanted my own business and worked until I reached a point where I thought my knowledge and experience could support a credible independent practice. I grew up in retail, worked for the Federal gov't, as a consultant, and in several other industries over the years. I've had a seat at the leadership table most of the time in an HR leader role. I understand strategy, financials and marketing. I like working behind the scenes to help leaders achieve their goals for the business. That entails getting the people part right and many leaders just aren't equally great at both. Or they don't have the time to invest personally in developing their people to achieve their best performance. A mentor to me suggested I'd be good that this and the rest is history.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
In consulting I focus on aligning people with strategy/mission/vision to get results. This is reinforced with strategies and processes that grow culture, awareness and engagement. I support this with executive coaching and search as needed to build great leading teams. I perform more like a concierge coach because I come to the client, even the office if needed, and I coach whole leadership teams. Other consultants are more project focused or don't have the added the coaching element as a reinforcement component. I am also a trusted adviser to several area CEO's. Leaders need an experienced go-to resource outside the organization. Where I make the difference is that I learn what is happening inside the organization and can provide informed counsel with the highest degree of confidentiality.
Provide detailed directions to your location
Typically meetings are held at the clients office or at a convenient venue to the client. I come to you, anywhere in Tampa Bay. I should have stock in Starbucks.
What type of payments do you accept?
I typically work on retainer and invoice monthly. However, new payment methods are making other options such as credit cards a viable option. I work out what works best for the client.
Which areas do you service?
My clients are across the Tampa Bay area, many with locations in other states. I have clients in Ybor City and Downtown Tampa as well as Clearwater and Sarasota. I drive a lot! Also, I travel as needed to other sites around the country for research, projects or launches.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
I am an army of one. I am a believer in assessments for coaching purposes, so I contract those to partner professionals. I also believe that fit and qualifications are critical. I utilize a network of professionals and consultants to make sure that the client gets the best resource for their unique needs.
What are your hours of operation?
Once on board, I am available to clients 24/7. I work 7 days a week, just like my clients do.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
When someone is successful at reaching a goal or completing a project and they say they could not have done it without my help, that makes all the time and personal investment worthwhile.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
I am inspired by so many things, the trick is to see what's there. This will suffice for today: Your present circumstances don't determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start.--Nido Qubein
